Amelia is back from her tour in Sweden with renewed energies and lots of new ideas in her mind after meeting with many Swedish SMEs and citizens. There are also many meetings of the ITRE and the INTA committees, with special attention to the ITRE votes of Wednesday on the data protection regulation. Finally, Tess will be in the office the whole week to evaluate our Amelia's communication campaign. You can see a more detailed schedule here:

The relation between some EU representatives and American lobbyists looks to me like the one between a nice kid and the bully of the classroom that has to retake his classes. The nice one might be encouraged to do naughty things; his marks will probably be negatively affected and his parents are for sure worried about the friendship. The idea of hanging around with the bad boy of the class might sound very cool, but the risks of a bad ending to the story are high.

This week Amelia is in Strasbourg for the plenary sessions. As you can see below, a very important part of her working schedule will be dedicated to data protection and meeting groups of interest from different backgrounds to be able to grasp opinions from all the sides. After Strasbourg, she will go to Sweden, to be there the whole next week for several meetings, events and also being in contact with her constituency.

 

The legal acts developed within the European Union are mainly influenced by three institutions:

Internet has been part of our lives for quite a long time already, but our laws have not fully adapted yet to it. The last legislation related to electronic identification is the Directive on a Community framework for electronic signatures, from 1999. Technology has had 13 years to evolve and has left this directive out of date.

This is the last week of the parliamentary year. Amelia will go back to Sweden on Wednesday, but before that she has to arrange many before the end of the year, so her schedule for Monday and Tuesday is even more busy  than normally:
