I am not working in Brussels. I am currently in Brussels, inside the European Parliament, with an "accredited visitor's" badge, meaning that I formally need to be accompanied by staff wherever I go. That is, I'm actually just like any ordinary citizen with the fortune of knowing people inside the walls.
As of Saturday, I am in Brussels, and as of today I am an accredited visitor of Erik Josefsson's until the end of the week. In the parliament today I have accomplished an interview with Norwegian television. But more interesting is the diligent preparations going on all over for the hearing of the new Commissioners next week. I was at a meeting with the group experts of the Green group in the morning and they were discussing each Commissioner in turn.
After getting in touch with Henk Prummel I also realised that Nellie Kroes might not be so bad at leading DG Telecoms. I have previously been only cautiously optimistic, because while everyone has been talking about the Microsoft cases I've actually been more worried about what's been going on with say Telefonica cases or BT cases. I feel more at ease now, although it still irks me that the Swedish conservatives were so ready to accept lack of competition regulation as a one-size-fits-all solution. It's obviously not. Deregulation worked well in... Sweden. But hardly anywhere else.
I also talked to Vula Tsetsi who is a very helpful and charming lady. She's concerned with the situation, but much like everyone else she doesn't know anything about the time frames for what's going to happen with me.
I will however be sharing offices with Laurence Van de Walle for a while. I'm very much looking forward to that, and am hoping we can dig up more stuff around the competition/telecoms stuff before the hearing next week. I got to know her through jz and she's been working with activists for several years.
It's all an adventure. Tomorrow I am meeting with Europaparlamentets i Sverige kontors boss who's currently in Brussels and who will explain to me why I may come to ascend at some time between 2010 and 2014.
As far as I can tell, the fact that you have not ascended yet is a breach of the Lisbon Treaty. Take it to the European Court of Justice.
I hope things will be sorted out soon so that you can start working officially. Looking forward to reports from you in the same good way as from Christian.

I hope so to, it feels like they're stealing time from us. They take all the things they like with the lissabon treaty and then just dont care about the things they dont like.

I hope it all works out for you Amelia. It seems strange that they are delaying an elected representative to ascend, I can't imagine that you will have to wait for very long.

@Lilleman: Oh, they're stealing time from everyone. Not only the Pirate Party is affected but also 15 other MEPs who are affected. I say 15 since, since there's 18 Lisbon MEPs in total AND France, especially Sarkoszy, are tampering with the process. As far as I understand he's trying to get a conservative into the European parliament who's not suppose to be there. It's highly irregular and especially ugly. The space is apparently otherwise reserved for a green MEP, so the Green group in EP are outraged, and most democratically minded people in Europe are outraged.
The Spanish presidency are prioritising this issue since Spain gains four extra MEPs with Lisbon. The Swedish government seems currently not to be prioritising the issue, but it's possible we could change that if we lobby them appropriately.
I'm running a bit low on cash, so it's going to be difficult for me to... continue working for any longer period of time. Gah.

The latest I heard was that French elections to the EP were not held in view with Lisbon potentially coming into force. So they only elected 72 MEPs. Full stop.
It is possible that negligence was a breach of the Treaties.
Maybe a joint court case with all Lisbon-MEPs would make a difference.
What a mess! Feels good that there at least are a few good people down there.

Swedish de-regulation worked well thanks to a zealous government agency, PTS, that constantly changed the rules to ban Telia from using their latest strategy to utilise their dominance. And they had a lot of strategies to do that.
