Last week I noticed the Dutch Hoge Raad (highest court in the Netherlands) defined "sms'jes" and "belminuten" (text messages and calling minutes) as stealable goods- I thought, that is weird.

Dutch operators are going to invest in extra base stations to cope with the "Elfstedentocht". This is a skating competition organised in the north of the Netherlands as soon as the ice on the canals between 11 pre-determined cities is thick enough to endure the weight of the skating competitors. As this winter has been cold enough, this is expected to happen soon. Last time the competition was organised was in 1997.

I am full member of the ITRE (industry, research, energy, formerly also transport but transport is currently in its own committee TRAN) and therefore have voting duty every time there are votes. The objects of my legislative prowess yesterday were the amendments for the European Network and Information Security Agency (ENISA) report (see parliament dossier website).

I was asked to write an article for the Romanian paper Adevărul. This is the original text in English:

Dutch ISPs not keen on acting as filters for their users communications - refuse to block IP addresses without a fight

Last week I had a brief encounter with two Icelandic ladies who were visiting the European Parliament in the interest of approaching MEPs who may have an interest the current endeavour of Iceland to join the European Union. I, of course, made no delay in asking about the on-going process of implementing the IMMI proposals into the Icelandic legislation.

The European Network and Information Security Agency (ENISA) has been operating on Greek soil since 2004. Their task is to improve network and information security in Europe, and do research or help coordinate research and structural improvements in the member state. Exactly as any public organisation, sometimes their operations are evaluated and decisions are made on how or if (usually how) their operations can continue.

This is an essay written by yours truly in Romanian about Hungary, to commemorate the debates in the European Parliament and international media of last week. It was actually originally written by me, but corrected by a native speaker who considered "80% of the [original] text intelligible". Nu på morgonen läste jag en besynnerlig debattartikel. Besynnerlig eftersom den tar upp ett problem och presenterar en lösning, men lösningen och problemet är inte relaterade till varandra.
